Kent Police and Kent Fire and Rescue Service (KFRS) are conducting a joint investigation into a tragic house fire that claimed the life of a young girl in Hamstreet, Kent.
The fire broke out at a home on White Admiral Way, Hamstreet, with the emergency call received at 12.15pm on Sunday 28 December 2025. Eight fire engines were dispatched promptly to the scene.
Firefighters arrived to find the property fully engulfed in flames, including a first-floor rear bedroom. Four teams of firefighters equipped with breathing apparatus battled the intense blaze while searching for anyone trapped inside.
Local residents described desperate and harrowing attempts to rescue those inside, but the fierce flames prevented their efforts. One neighbour said: “It started downstairs and spread really quickly. There was nothing we could do at that point. It was really bad. We were all beaten back.”
Tragically, a young girl was pronounced dead at the scene. Her family has been notified and is receiving support from specially trained officers.
Nearby homes were evacuated as a precautionary safety measure. Fire crews conducted thorough checks for hotspots on the first floor and roof space, utilising a thermal imaging drone and carrying out structural inspections.
Police maintained a strict cordon to secure the area while emergency teams worked to extinguish the fire.
A joint investigation is ongoing between KFRS’s Incident Investigation Team and Kent Police. Officers have conducted house-to-house enquiries and reviewed CCTV footage from the area to determine the cause of the fire.
A Kent Police spokesperson stated: “Kent Police was called at 12.22pm on Sunday 28 December 2025 following reports of a fire on White Admiral Way in Hamstreet. Officers are at the scene assisting Kent Fire and Rescue with road closures as they extinguish the fire.”
