Two men are currently in custody after a tragic hit-and-run incident on the A289 Gads Hill in Gillingham resulted in the death of an elderly pedestrian on Monday afternoon.
The collision occurred at 12.10pm when a grey Mercedes estate struck the man, reportedly dragging him on the bonnet before fleeing the scene. The vehicle was later found abandoned on Eastcourt Lane, but the driver and passenger had already fled on foot.
The victim was discovered injured on Grange Road, where paramedics attended quickly but were unable to save him. He was pronounced dead at the roadside.
Kent Police arrested two suspects later that day: a 29-year-old man from Chatham and a 28-year-old man with no fixed address. Both remain in custody as the investigation continues.
Detectives have released a CCTV image of a possible third man connected to the incident and are appealing to the public to help identify him. Authorities are urging anyone with information to come forward.
