A tragic crash on the A2 this morning has claimed the life of a motorcyclist near Wilmington. The London-bound carriageway, just before the Dartford Heath junction, is currently closed while police conduct an urgent investigation into the collision.
The crash involved two motorcycles, a grey BMW and a black Kawasaki, which collided at around 8am. Emergency services responded swiftly, but despite their efforts, a man in his 30s was pronounced dead at the scene. His next of kin have been informed of the devastating loss.
Another rider involved in the collision sustained serious injuries and was rushed to a London hospital for urgent medical treatment.
The incident has caused major traffic disruption, with a significant emergency response including multiple police vehicles, fire engines, ambulances, and an air ambulance overhead. The A2 closure has led to severe tailbacks extending from the M25 Darenth Interchange to Dartford Heath’s A2018 Old Bexley Lane. National Highways officers are present to manage the traffic, but no reopening time has been confirmed.
A Kent Police spokesman said: “Dashcam footage and witnesses are urgently sought in relation to this fatal collision. The Serious Collision Investigation Unit is handling enquiries. Motorists who were nearby are urged to check for any dashcam recordings that could aid the investigation.”
