Drivers faced major disruption on the M25 yesterday afternoon after a serious collision involving a van and a lorry at the Dartford Crossing. The crash led to hours of gridlock on one of the busiest roads in Britain.
The incident occurred around 4pm on July 24, on the crucial A282 section of the M25. National Highways confirmed that the clockwise carriageway between Junction 30 and A282 Junction 2 in Dartford was completely closed.
Emergency services including Kent Police, Kent Fire Service, and East Coast Ambulance responded swiftly to the scene. A woman involved in the collision was critically injured and airlifted to a London hospital for urgent medical treatment.
The motorway remained closed for over four hours, causing significant tailbacks. Partial reopening of the road began at 8.37pm, with one lane still closed to allow for cleanup and vehicle recovery. The M25 was fully reopened by 9.49pm, providing relief to stranded motorists.
A Kent Police spokesperson said: “Emergency services worked together at the scene following the collision. The road was closed to keep everyone safe during recovery.”
Drivers were advised to find alternative routes and keep updated through National Highways. Investigations into the cause of the crash are ongoing as authorities work to determine what happened.
