Chaos gripped the M2 in Kent last night as hundreds of motorists were left stranded for hours in freezing sub-zero temperatures following a fatal collision. The crash involved a heavy goods vehicle (HGV) and a pedestrian, prompting a full closure of the eastbound carriageway.
The tragic incident occurred between Junction 5 (Sittingbourne) and Junction 6 (Faversham) at around 8pm on Wednesday, November 20. Kent Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit immediately launched an investigation into the crash. The motorway remains shut eastbound, causing significant disruption to traffic.
With temperatures dropping below freezing, those trapped on the motorway endured bitterly cold conditions for hours. Reports indicate that many drivers had no heating or supplies, raising serious concerns for their welfare. Emergency teams from National Highways and Kent Police worked to manage traffic and assist stranded motorists, but progress has been slow due to the complexity of the ongoing inquiry.
A Kent Police spokesperson said, “We are appealing for any witnesses or dashcam footage from the area around the time of the incident.
