Five people have been charged following a wild night of violence involving football fans outside the Fat Cat bar in Nottingham’s Chapel Bar area. Nottinghamshire Police launched a thorough investigation after reports of disorder on February 6, 2022.
A group of Leicester City supporters went on a destructive spree, smashing windows and hurling chairs and a table outside the bar. The violent scenes caused public alarm just before the FA Cup tie against Nottingham Forest at the City Ground.
Police acted quickly, reviewing hours of CCTV footage over two months. Their work uncovered more suspects, leading to the arrest of two men, aged 24 and 36, on suspicion of violent disorder on April 22. Both have been released pending further investigation.
The investigation has intensified with eight arrests made so far. Police have also released images of an additional suspect they want to question. Earlier, a 24-year-old man was detained on April 7 and released under investigation.
Following detailed enquiries, officers executed several warrants at addresses in Leicestershire in March 2022, resulting in five suspects being charged with violent disorder:
- Tyrone Smith, 37, Central Road, Leicester
- Craig Jones, 23, Arden Avenue, Leicester
- Przemyslaw Danik, 41, Rutland Street, Leicester
- Neil Munden, 53, Winforde Crescent, Leicester
- Craig Flint, 40, Whitwick, Leicestershire
Smith, Munden, and Flint pleaded guilty at Nottingham Crown Court on April 19 and are set to be sentenced in July. Danik and Jones remain silent and face court again on April 26.
Detective Sergeant Jon Kerry said: “The actions of those involved were completely unacceptable, causing disgusting scenes in the city centre. There’s no place for this behaviour.”
He added: “Our officers have worked tirelessly over the past couple of months to track down those responsible. Two more arrests this week bring the total to eight. The investigation continues. We’ve released images of another suspect and urge anyone with info to come forward immediately.”
