Sheffield Police have issued a clear warning to drivers planning to attend a car meet in the city on Saturday, June 25. South Yorkshire Police have stated that risky behaviour and dangerous driving will not be tolerated during the event.
Sergeant Brandon Brown, spokesperson for the traffic unit, said, “We’re passionate about cars and happy for people to meet and show off their rides. But it has to be safe.” He explained that the police work closely with recognised car meet groups across South Yorkshire to ensure events remain enjoyable and, most importantly, safe for local communities.
Police have highlighted that unlicensed car meets are illegal and pose significant dangers. They warned that tough action will be taken against reckless drivers and those involved in anti-social behaviour. This includes the use of dispersal orders under the Anti-Social Behaviour, Crime, and Policing Act 2014.
Officers will be checking licences, insurance, and car modifications at the event. Reckless drivers may face formal warnings or have their vehicles seized under Section 59 of the Police Reform Act. Any unlicensed gatherings will be broken up by police officers.
