Late on Friday night, just before 10.30pm, police responded to reports of a shooting on Quinney Crescent in Moss Side. A 16-year-old girl was found injured outside a house where a party was taking place.
The teenager suffered a single gunshot wound but is in stable condition with minor injuries. She was taken to hospital and is currently recovering. Officers are providing support to her and her family during this difficult time.
Detectives from Longsight CID revealed that a passing vehicle fired a single shot at the group gathered outside the party. Fortunately, the girl is not believed to have been the intended target of the shooting. Police are investigating the motive behind the attack.
So far, no arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
Chief Superintendent Robert Cousen, commander of Manchester City division, said: “Incidents like this are always reckless and risk lives being lost. My thoughts are with the victim, whose injuries are thankfully minor. We’re working around the clock to find those responsible and bring them to justice.”
Officers carried out extensive searches around Quinney Crescent overnight and continue their investigation. They are appealing to party attendees and the local community for any information that could assist the inquiry.
