Just after midnight on Sunday, Ashley Dale, 28, was found injured in a backyard in Liverpool. Despite emergency care provided at the scene and subsequent hospital treatment, she was pronounced dead.
A Home Office post-mortem examination confirmed that Ashley died from a single gunshot wound. Police believe she was not the intended target of the shooting.
Ashley Dale was a graduate and worked for Knowsley Council’s environmental health team.
CCTV footage shows a car pulling into Leinster Road, Old Swan, at around 12:30 a.m., approximately 10 minutes before Ashley was found. Officers are appealing to the driver, any passengers, and pedestrians who were nearby at the time to come forward with information.
Detective Chief Inspector Cath Cummings said, “Our officers are working around the clock to investigate this appalling incident that tragically resulted in the death of a young woman. If you saw anything at the time—whether you were driving, walking, or caught something on CCTV—please come forward. Your help is vital.”
The shooting occurred shortly after the Anthony Joshua heavyweight fight loss to Oleksandr Usyk. The streets were busy with fans heading home or into town.
DCI Cummings urged anyone near Leinster Road or Prescot Road, especially around the Navigator pub intersection between 12:20 and 12:40 a.m., to share any information they may have. She added, “Taxi and delivery drivers with dashcams in the area during that time are also urged to contact us.”
Police have launched an appeal for information and ask anyone with relevant details to contact Merseyside Police via their public portal, message on social media @MerPolCC, or call 101 with reference case 22000615873. Information can also be reported anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
The investigation continues as police seek anyone who can help bring those responsible for Ashley Dale’s death to justice.
