On Monday 12 September 2022, a high-speed police chase unfolded through Cliffe Woods after a driver in a Mitsubishi Shogun failed to stop for officers on Town Road between 2.40pm and 3pm.
The driver refused to comply with police signals and sped off, weaving dangerously along narrow country lanes. During the pursuit, the driver overtook a lorry and a car in a reckless attempt to evade capture.
The chase continued through Higham Road and Cooling Road before the driver left the road and entered a field. The Mitsubishi was subsequently found abandoned in an orchard, but the driver was not at the scene.
Kent Police deployed a helicopter to assist in the search for the suspect.
Officers later arrested a 37-year-old man from Rochester on suspicion of failing to stop and dangerous driving. He has since been released on bail while investigations continue.
Kent Police are appealing to anyone who witnessed the pursuit, especially those with dashcam or video footage of the incident, to come forward. Witnesses are asked to contact Kent Police on 01474 366149 quoting reference 46/178764/22.
