Two men have been arrested for drink-driving in Nottinghamshire during a police crackdown targeting impaired drivers this December. The arrests happened just minutes apart in different parts of the region as officers stepped up their efforts to improve road safety.
Police first stopped a van in Rainworth at around 10.30pm on Thursday, December 8. A breath test showed the 38-year-old driver was well over the legal limit. He was arrested at the scene and remains in custody while inquiries continue.
Less than 15 minutes later, officers stopped another van on Mansfield Road, Blidworth. The 36-year-old driver was also found to be over the drink-drive limit. He was charged and released on conditional bail. He is scheduled to appear at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court on 3 January 2023.
These arrests come amid a nationwide month of action targeting drink and drug driving. Police forces across the UK are increasing patrols and roadside tests to prevent impaired driving and save lives. Nottinghamshire officers are also organising roadshows to educate the public on the dangers of driving under the influence.
The message from authorities is clear: do not risk your life or the lives of others by drinking and driving.
Sergeant Jonny Groves of Nottinghamshire Police said, “Anyone who drives after drinking or taking drugs puts lives at risk. We will breathalyse anyone we suspect is over the limit and take action. Our investigations continue, and we urge anyone with information to come forward.”
