Police stormed a care home in Shaw, Oldham at 2:40pm on Sunday following reports of a suspicious male on the premises. The situation quickly became serious when officers discovered an elderly woman had been seriously sexually assaulted and physically assaulted.
The victim was rushed to hospital for urgent medical treatment. A 21-year-old man was arrested at the scene and is currently in custody undergoing intensive questioning.
Officers carried out thorough searches of the care home before closing the scene. Authorities confirmed that all other residents are safe and are receiving appropriate support.
Superintendent Phillip Hutchinson of GMP’s Oldham district said, “Specialist officers are currently supporting the victim and her loved ones at what is undoubtedly a difficult and distressing time. We know this will hit residents, families, staff, and the wider community hard. That’s why we deployed uniformed and specialist officers to the scene and will keep patrolling the area to reassure everyone.”
Alongside the ongoing criminal investigation, Greater Manchester Police is working closely with Oldham Council and partner agencies to enhance safeguarding measures and security at the care home.
