Kalabe Legesse, aged 29, was fatally stabbed just before 8.25pm on December 30 in Peckham Rye Park near Strakers Road. Emergency services arrived promptly, but despite their efforts, Kalabe died at the scene.

A post-mortem examination revealed that Kalabe died from a haemorrhage caused by a stab wound to the heart. His family and friends have been left devastated by the senseless attack.

Detective Chief Inspector Katherine Goodwin of the Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Crime Command said, “Kalabe’s death followed a brutal and senseless attack while he was simply sitting in the park, minding his own business.”

Police believe two suspects fled the scene on pedal bikes heading towards Peckham Rye. Officers are urgently appealing for anyone who was near the café or playground around 8pm to come forward with information.
