The Organised Crime Partnership, a joint operation between the National Crime Agency (NCA) and Police Scotland, has successfully apprehended Scott Grant, 36, from Greenock, in connection with an illegal firearm shipment.
Border Force officers intercepted a forward venting blank firing handgun sent through the postal system from Spain, triggering a full-scale investigation. The weapon seized is illegal in the UK as it can be easily converted to fire live rounds.
The handgun was shipped from Spain, where such guns are legally permitted. Grant was arrested at his residence on Wren Road on 14 May 2020. During the police raid, officers also discovered a crossbow, knives, a ballistic vest, and a second legal blank-firing weapon.
On 5 January, at Edinburgh High Court, Grant pleaded guilty and was sentenced to five years in prison for purchasing a prohibited firearm.
Authorities emphasized the importance of public cooperation in tackling illegal firearms. “There is absolutely no place for illegal firearms in our communities,” they stated. “We will use all resources to combat organised crime and bring offenders to justice.”
