A brazen thief targeted St Peter’s Church in Market Street, Sandwich at approximately 1.45pm on Tuesday, January 17, 2023. The suspect stole cash and a credit card during the daylight robbery, causing shock in the local community.

Police investigating the incident have now released a CCTV image of a man they believe may be connected to the crime. Acting Inspector Leigh Woolnough of the Dover Community Safety Unit said, “I appreciate the man’s face is obscured in the image, but we are hoping someone may recognise him from his clothes, hat, and bag.”

Authorities are urging anyone who recognises the suspect or has any information to contact Kent Police on 01843 222289, quoting reference 46/10454/23. For those who prefer to remain anonymous, Crimestoppers can be reached at 0800 555111 or via their online form.

Police emphasise the importance of community vigilance to help prevent thieves from targeting places of worship. Residents are encouraged to stay alert and report any suspicious activity.
