Chelsea O’Neill, 21, of no fixed address, was sentenced to five years in prison on Friday, 27 January, at Wood Green Crown Court for a brutal sexual assault in Tottenham.
After a three-week trial, O’Neill was found guilty of sexual assault by penetration, sexual assault by touching, and actual bodily harm (ABH).
The attack occurred in the early hours of 13 October 2021. O’Neill, who knew the victim from Tottenham, visited her and carried out the violent assault, which included strangulation.
The victim reported the incident the following day. Police arrested O’Neill on 14 October on suspicion of assault by penetration and ABH. She was formally charged on 15 October.
Detective Sergeant Myles Bossman, the lead investigator, said, “O’Neill is a highly dangerous individual. She inflicted significant violence on a young female with no remorse. This sentence sends a clear message that such behaviour will not be tolerated. The victim has shown incredible strength and courage in coming forward and assisting police. We thank her and hope this conviction brings some closure to a horrific ordeal.”
The Metropolitan Police urges anyone affected by sexual assault to contact the police immediately. They stress that there is zero tolerance for these serious crimes.
