Police in Nottingham arrested an 18-year-old man on Angel Row after a knife was discovered in a shop following a reported disturbance on Thursday night.
Officers arrived at Angel Row at approximately 7.45 p.m. to find staff holding the suspect. A security guard handed over a knife that was allegedly found on the youth during a search inside the store.
The teenager was promptly arrested on suspicion of carrying an offensive weapon in a public place.
Inspector Sharon Powar from Nottinghamshire Police condemned the possession of the weapon. She stated, “There is never an excuse for anyone to carry a knife in a public place – it’s incredibly dangerous. Not only does it put others at risk, but it also endangers the carrier. We take all knife-related reports seriously and act swiftly to resolve them safely.”
The suspect remains in police custody. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact Nottinghamshire Police by calling 101 and quoting incident number 740 of 2 February 2023, or to report anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
