Just before 11pm on 10 October 2022, a terrifying robbery took place at a grocery shop on Grosvenor Avenue, N5, Islington. A hooded suspect threatened the shopkeeper with a machete, seized cash and cigarettes, and then fled towards Highbury New Park.
Detective Constable Hickson of the Metropolitan Police’s Central North Borough Command Unit (BCU) confirmed that the machete used in the robbery was recovered under communal bins near Hillfield House, located just off Grosvenor Avenue. “The police investigation led to the recovery of the machete, which was left under communal bins outside Hillfield House off Grosvenor Avenue. However, the suspect remains outstanding,” DC Hickson said.
Despite the CCTV footage being blurry, DC Hickson remains hopeful that someone will recognise the suspect based on his clothing and build. The man is described as a white male, aged between 25 and 30 years old, approximately 6 feet tall, and slim in build.
“He is a callous individual who brandished a terrifying weapon for a paltry loot. If you know who he is, please tell police or contact Crimestoppers anonymously,” DC Hickson urged.
Members of the public with information are encouraged to call the police on 101 or tweet @MetCC with the reference 8048/10OCT22. Alternatively, tips can be given anonymously to Crimestoppers via phone or online, with assurances that IP addresses will not be traced.
