The M5 motorway in Gloucestershire is currently shut in both directions between Junction 13 (Stroud) and Junction 14 (Thornbury) following a serious police-led incident. This closure is causing significant disruption for motorists travelling northbound and southbound.

Gloucestershire Police are managing the closure, while National Highways Traffic Officers are present on site to direct traffic and help ease congestion. Drivers caught in the tailbacks are being turned around from the back of the queues to prevent further traffic chaos.

Clear Diversion Routes – Southbound Traffic

Southbound drivers are advised to follow the Solid Circle diversion signs: exit the M5 at Junction 13 and join the A38 southbound. Continue along the A38 southbound before rejoining the M5 at Junction 14.

Northbound Traffic – What to Do

Motorists travelling northbound should follow the Solid Triangle diversion signs: leave the M5 at Junction 14 and take the A38 northbound. Continue on the A38 northbound and rejoin the M5 at Junction 13.

Drivers are urged to plan ahead, expect delays, and consider postponing journeys if possible.
