Drivers on the M2 coastbound are experiencing significant delays this afternoon after a three-vehicle crash near Faversham caused heavy congestion stretching for five miles.
The collision occurred just before 12pm between Junction 5 (Stockbury Roundabout for Sittingbourne and Maidstone) and Junction 6 for Faversham. The incident involved two vans and a car.
Emergency services responded quickly, closing all lanes to manage the scene and ensure safety. Although one lane has since reopened, traffic remains backed up to Junction 4 for Gillingham.
National Highways has warned motorists to expect delays of up to an hour beyond normal journey times due to the incident.
Kent Police confirmed officers were called to the scene around midday. Fortunately, no injuries were reported. A police spokesperson stated: “Officers were called to the M2 coastbound around 12pm following a multi-vehicle collision. The crash involved three vehicles and all traffic was temporarily held. No injuries have been reported.”
Highways teams continue to manage the lane closure and work on clearing the wreckage to restore normal traffic flow.
Motorists travelling coastbound from Maidstone and Sittingbourne are advised to allow extra travel time or seek alternative routes. Live traffic updates show congestion building near the crash site.
