Emergency services responded to a serious multi-vehicle collision on the M2 coastbound at junction 3 near Maidstone on Wednesday afternoon, resulting in three injuries.
The crash occurred at approximately 4:15pm and involved three vehicles, one of which caught fire. Kent Fire and Rescue Service promptly dispatched two fire engines to extinguish the blaze. Firefighters equipped with breathing apparatus used high-pressure hose reels and compressed air foam to bring the fire under control.
In a dramatic rescue effort, emergency crews had to cut the roof off one of the cars to free a trapped motorist. The driver was safely extracted and received treatment at the scene, along with two other injured individuals, by paramedics from the South East Coast Ambulance Service.
The incident prompted a multi-agency response including Kent Police, HEMS doctors, Kent Air Ambulance, and National Highways traffic officers. Due to the severity of the crash, the M2 coastbound was closed for several hours, leading to significant traffic delays. Drivers were advised to avoid the area and seek alternative routes.
There has been no update on the condition of the injured victims. Police are appealing for any witnesses to come forward to assist with the ongoing investigation.
