National Highways has implemented diversions to help drivers bypass the closure:

Northbound Diversion:

  • Exit the A12 at Junction 27 (Spring Lane Interchange)
  • Follow the A133 through Colchester
  • At the A1232 Ipswich Road roundabout, take the first exit
  • Continue on the A1232 northbound
  • Rejoin the A12 at Junction 29

Southbound Diversion:

  • Exit the A12 at Junction 29
  • Take the second exit onto the A1232 at the roundabout
  • At the St Andrew’s Avenue/Cowdray Avenue roundabout, take the third exit onto the A133
  • Follow the A133 through Colchester to the Spring Lane Roundabout
  • Take the second exit and rejoin the A12 southbound at Junction 27

Drivers are urged to allow extra travel time, consider alternative routes, or delay journeys until the road reopens.
