Emergency services have scrambled to the scene of a serious overturned car crash on the A21 in East Sussex. Sussex Police and the Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance are currently attending the incident.
National Highways contractors are also present to manage the resulting traffic chaos and snarls caused by the closure.
The A21 is shut both Londonbound and northbound, with diversions in place for drivers. Londonbound and northbound drivers are advised to follow hollow circle signs and leave the A21 at Sedlescombe. From there, head north on the B2244, travel through to Hawkhurst, and reach the junction with the A229. At Hawkhurst, take the A229 northbound briefly, then join the A268 westbound at the A268 junction, continuing to the Flimwell crossroads. Finally, rejoin the A21 Londonbound or northbound at Flimwell.
Coastbound and southbound traffic should take the reverse route.
If this closure disrupts your plans, expect serious delays. It is recommended to plan ahead, consider rerouting, or delay your journey to avoid the motorway disruption.
