Police have finally brought a risky protest on Dartford Bridge to a close, arresting two men on suspicion of conspiracy to commit public nuisance. Officers worked alongside partner agencies and used an elevated platform to safely reach and remove the protesters.
Chief Superintendent Simon Anslow, who led the operation, said, “We cannot tolerate people carrying out activity which puts lives at risk and prevents people from going about their lives.”
He added, “I know this has been really frustrating for the public. The disruption has hurt businesses and caused people to miss appointments.”
“Alongside our partners, we worked hard to resolve this complex situation as quickly and safely as possible.”
“Now the situation has been resolved, National Highways will decide when and how the bridge can re-open.”
Chief Superintendent Anslow also emphasised the police position on protests, stating, “We are not anti-protest. We always try to facilitate safe protest where we can.”
“However, putting lives in danger with irresponsible actions is unacceptable. In this case, we had to act, but safely and responsibly.”
“Thanks to the public for their patience and understanding throughout.”
A specialist team is now leading the investigation, gathering evidence for a Crown Prosecution Service decision. Authorities aim for a positive outcome to prevent any repeat of this dangerous disruption.
