The M20 motorway is completely closed eastbound between Junction 1 (M25) and Junction 2 (Wrotham) following a serious collision involving a van and a heavy goods vehicle. The westbound carriageway is also blocked between Junction 2 and Junction 1 due to an air ambulance attending the scene.
Kent Police are leading the emergency response after the crash occurred at around 1.45pm on Friday, 11 November. All emergency services, including the South East Coast Ambulance Service and an air ambulance, rushed to the location to provide assistance.
Two men have been treated at the scene for injuries and are being taken to hospital for further care. A Kent Police spokesperson said, “At around 1.45pm, Kent Police was called to a collision involving a van and a lorry on the coastbound M20 between junctions 1 and 2. Officers and ambulance crews are at the scene where two men have been treated and are being taken to hospital. Both carriageways remain closed while emergency services work. The London-bound side will reopen once the air ambulance departs.”
National Highways are managing traffic in the area, holding westbound vehicles until the air ambulance leaves the scene. Drivers stuck eastbound are advised to remain in their vehicles and follow police instructions. There is currently no estimate on when the road will reopen.
Motorists are advised to use the M26 as a diversion to avoid the incident and to expect heavy delays on the M25 near Junction 3 and the M20 at Junction 1. Authorities urge drivers to stay tuned for further updates regarding this major traffic disruption.
