A single-vehicle collision closed the Londonbound carriageway of the M2 near Faversham at around 1.30am on Thursday. The incident forced Kent Police to shut the road, resulting in several HGVs and other vehicles becoming stuck in gridlock.

Kent Police are leading the investigation at the scene, while National Highways teams are managing traffic. Due to the extent of the work required, officers have not yet confirmed when the road will reopen but hope to clear the closure before the morning rush hour.

The crash involved a police officer who miraculously escaped serious injury. Kent Police have been contacted for an official statement regarding the incident.

Drivers are advised to follow the official diversion route marked with a solid square symbol on local signs to avoid delays. The diversion route is as follows: exit the M2 at Junction 6 and join the A251 southbound towards the A252 in Challock. At the roundabout, turn west onto the A252 towards Charing and the A20 junction. Then join the A20 westbound to Maidstone and M20 Junction 8. Enter the M20 Londonbound to Junction 7, exit at Junction 7, and take the northbound A249 towards M2 Junction 5 to resume westbound travel on the M2.
