The M2’s London-bound carriageway is closed this morning following a serious two-car collision between Faversham and Sittingbourne. Emergency crews rushed to the scene, and National Highways have warned that the road will remain shut “into the afternoon.”

A National Highways spokesperson confirmed: “The M2 is closed westbound between Junction 6 for Faversham and Junction 5 for Sittingbourne due to a serious collision involving two vehicles.” Emergency services, including police, are currently managing the scene. Officials say the closure is expected to last for an extended period due to the incident’s severity.

Motorists heading westbound face significant delays and are being diverted off the M2 at Faversham. The diversion route directs traffic along the A251, A252, M20, and A249 before rejoining the M2.

Key details include:

  • M2 westbound closed from Junction 6 (Faversham) to Junction 5 (Sittingbourne)
  • Serious two-car collision blocking the carriageway
  • Road remains shut through the morning and into the afternoon
  • Diverted traffic advised to use A251, A252, M20, and A249

Drivers are advised to plan for delays and follow diversion signs. Stay tuned for updates as emergency services continue to work to clear the scene.
