A crane fire on the M25 in Kent has caused significant disruption, closing three lanes on the anti-clockwise carriageway between Junction 6 Godstone Interchange and Junction 5 Chevening Interchange.
Kent Fire & Rescue teams responded promptly to the blaze and successfully extinguished the flames. Despite this, the affected lanes remain closed as crews work to recover the damaged crane from the scene.
Following the crane removal, the road will require repairs before full reopening can occur, prolonging the disruption.
The incident has resulted in an eight-mile traffic jam, with motorists facing delays of up to 90 minutes. National Highways has advised drivers to plan for extra travel time when passing through this section of the M25.
Authorities recommend that if possible, drivers delay their journeys or seek alternative routes to avoid the congestion caused by the crane fire and ongoing recovery efforts.
