The Dartford Crossing payment system is undergoing significant changes starting Friday. The new service provider, Conduent, will take over responsibility for vehicle identification, payments, and account management.
If you use a Dart Charge account or the Pay as You Go option, it is essential to re-validate your payment card by July 28, 2023. Failure to do so could result in receiving a Penalty Charge Notice (PCN).
National Highways has already issued warnings to affected customers. When logging into your account, you will find clear instructions on how to update your payment details. Ignoring this update may cause your crossings not to be paid automatically, leading to potential fines.
National Highways acknowledges that the update might be inconvenient but states that customer research informed the redesign to make the system easier and more user-friendly. During the transition, Emovis will continue to handle enquiries and PCNs.
Helen Watkinson, Head of Road User Charging, said: “The new service is built around customers. We’re planning more tweaks to give drivers greater flexibility and convenience.” National Highways also encourages customers to provide feedback on their website to help improve the service.
The Dartford Crossing, opened by Queen Elizabeth II in 1991, is a vital link between Kent and Essex. This payment system upgrade aims to speed up the process and make crossing easier for drivers.
