Operation Brock is now active on the M20 after a significant six-hour delay at the Eurotunnel on Monday afternoon led to severe disruption for heavy goods vehicle (HGV) drivers.
The technical fault responsible for the gridlock continued into the early hours of Tuesday, resulting in lorries being backed up for miles along the route.
Coastguard teams provided food packages and water to truckers who were stranded overnight in the Brock area, ensuring their basic needs were met during the extended wait.
Motorists experienced queues stretching six miles as they waited to access either the Port of Dover or the Eurotunnel terminal at Folkestone.
National Highways and the Kent Resilience Forum confirmed that Operation Brock was activated from Monday, December 12, to manage the anticipated high volume of passenger traffic during the busy festive season.
The contraflow system implemented by Operation Brock is designed to prevent the M20 from becoming overwhelmed with stationary lorries waiting to cross the Channel, helping to maintain traffic flow and reduce congestion.
