The A3(M) motorway in Hampshire is completely closed in both directions between junction 2 and junction 3 after a serious collision involving a car and a motorbike.
The closure affects the stretch from J2 Dell Piece Interchange, near Havant and Lovedean (B2149), to J3 Waterlooville Interchange, near Waterlooville and Havant (B2150). The busy route remains sealed off as emergency services attend the scene.
Hampshire Police are leading the response to the incident, supported by teams from South Central Ambulance Service and National Highways Traffic Officers. Due to the severity of the crash, the road closure is expected to remain in place well into the night.
Authorities have urged motorists caught inside the closure to remain with their vehicles for safety. National Highways and police are working to safely turn traffic around from the back of the queue once the road is fully closed. A spokesperson said, “We appreciate your patience whilst this is being done.”
Drivers are advised to follow the recommended diversions to avoid the affected area:
Southbound Drivers: Exit at J2 Dell Piece Interchange. At the roundabout, take the third exit onto B2149 Dell Piece West. Continue to the A3 Portsmouth Road junction and turn left to rejoin the A3. Drive to Waterlooville and take the first exit at the B2150 Hulbert Road roundabout. Follow B2150 to J3 and take the third exit to rejoin the A3(M) southbound.
Northbound Drivers: Exit at J3 Waterlooville Interchange. Take the first exit onto B2150 Hulbert Road at the roundabout. At the next roundabout with the A3, take the second exit onto the A3. Continue to B2149 Dell Piece West junction and turn right. Follow B2149 to J2 and take the first exit to rejoin A3(M) northbound.
Motorists should look out for local road signs marked with a solid triangle for southbound diversions and a solid diamond for northbound diversions.
