The Londonbound carriageway of the M2 near Faversham was closed following a single-vehicle crash at approximately 1:30am on Thursday morning.

Kent Police are leading the response to the incident, with support from National Highways to manage traffic. Several heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) and other motorists remain trapped behind the closure.

Officers at the scene have stated that they cannot confirm when the road will reopen, but efforts are underway to clear the carriageway before the morning rush hour.

A diversion route has been established and is clearly marked with a solid square symbol to assist drivers. The diversion directs traffic to exit the M2 at Junction 6, then take the A251 southbound towards the A252 in Challock. At the roundabout, drivers should head west on the A252 towards Charing and the A20 junction. From there, follow the A20 westbound to Maidstone and M20 Junction 8. Motorists can then join the M20 Londonbound until Junction 7, exit onto the northbound A249 towards M2 Junction 5, and resume westbound travel on the M2.

Kent Police have been contacted for an official statement regarding the incident and the condition of the police officer involved, who reportedly avoided serious injury in the crash.
