The M20 motorway is currently shut between junctions 4 and 5 after a horrific multi-vehicle collision near West Malling. The crash occurred just after 6:20pm on Wednesday evening on the London-bound carriageway within the smart motorway section.
Emergency services quickly responded to the scene, dealing with a collision involving a vehicle that left the carriageway, multiple cars, and an overseas lorry driver. Police and National Highways officers promptly closed the motorway, requiring all traffic to exit at junction 4.
The closure is expected to last for several hours, causing significant delays for motorists. Drivers caught inside the closure are advised to follow instructions displayed on overhead gantries and seek alternative routes to avoid being stuck in the resulting gridlock.
Two Kent Fire and Rescue vehicles were called to the scene to assist with extractions. South East Coast Ambulance Service and Kent Police are also attending the incident.
Kent Police and South East Coast Ambulance Service have been contacted for official statements. Further updates will be provided as the situation develops.
