Thames Valley Police are investigating a serious collision involving a pedestrian that occurred just after 11.25pm on Monday 13 March. The victim has sustained serious injuries.
As a result, the A34 has been shut while police carry out their inquiries, which are expected to last throughout the night.
Officers have sealed off the area to ensure the investigation is conducted safely and thoroughly. National Highways has deployed traffic management teams to help control traffic flow and minimise disruption.
Drivers are urged to follow diversion signs marked with a solid diamond. The official alternative route is as follows:
Exit the A34 at Hinksey Hill Interchange. Turn right at the roundabout onto the A4074 (Oxford Southern Bypass). Pass the Kennington roundabout, then turn left at Heyford Hill roundabout onto the A4142 Eastern Bypass. Follow the A4142 to the A40 Headington roundabout and take the second exit onto the A40 Northern Bypass. At the A44 roundabout, take the fourth exit to join the A44. Continue to the A34 Peartree Interchange and take the third exit at the roundabout to rejoin the A34 northbound.
Motorists should plan ahead, allow extra time for their journeys, and consider rerouting or postponing trips where possible. Thames Valley Police will provide updates as their investigation continues.
