Storm Ciarán is set to batter South East England with fierce gales starting from 5am on Thursday 2nd November, continuing until 6pm the same day. Residents and travellers in the region are advised to prepare for severe weather conditions and potential travel chaos.

The northern half of the South East will experience strong winds of 50-60mph. However, the south coast will face even more intense conditions, with gusts ranging from Bournemouth to Ramsgate expected to reach between 65 and 75mph. Although winds will ease from the west by the afternoon, areas such as Folkestone and Ramsgate will still experience strong gusts into the evening.

Authorities have issued warnings for high-sided vehicles, caravans, and motorbikes, which are at high risk of being blown over by the powerful gales. Drivers are urged to exercise extreme caution or consider postponing journeys during the storm.

To stay safe, it is recommended to regularly check weather updates on the Met Office website and follow winter driving advice. For live traffic information, travellers can visit Traffic England or monitor regional updates on X feeds. Additionally, the National Highways 24/7 contact centre is available at 0300 123 5000 for immediate assistance.
