A serious crash involving a Vauxhall Astra and a Citroën has caused a full closure of the M2 eastbound motorway in Kent. The collision occurred between Junction 4 (Hempstead) and Junction 5 (Stockbury), resulting in major disruption during the morning rush hour.
Kent Police’s specialist collision team is currently investigating the scene to determine the cause of the severe impact. Multiple vehicles were involved in the incident, though details are still emerging.
Emergency services, including Kent Police and National Highways traffic officers, responded quickly to manage the scene and control the resulting traffic chaos.
The eastbound M2 is expected to remain closed for several hours while a full investigation is conducted. Motorists are advised to follow the diversions in place, which include exiting the M2 at the nearest junction, taking the 3rd exit onto the A229 at the roundabout, following the A229 towards Maidstone, and joining the M20 coastbound at Junction 6.
Drivers should then continue on the M20 to Junction 7 and exit, take the 1st exit onto the A249 northbound at the roundabout, and follow the A249 northbound back to M2 Junction 5 to rejoin the eastbound carriageway.
Authorities urge drivers to follow the solid circle diversion signs, expect delays, and allow extra time for their journeys. Alternative routes are recommended where possible to avoid the heavy congestion caused by the closure.
