Traffic on the M20 motorway came to a standstill today following reports of a man spotted ‘covered in blood’ near Maidstone. Police were forced to close the road between Junction 7 and Junction 8, causing major delays in both directions.
The closure led to queues stretching from the A249 at Junction 7 all the way to the A20 at Junction 8, close to the popular Leeds Castle. Drivers faced delays of up to an hour as emergency services dealt with the situation.
Eyewitnesses took to social media to share their experiences of seeing the bloodied man wandering along the motorway. One driver described the man, believed to be Eastern European, approaching their vehicle and claiming he had been attacked. Another motorist said they locked their car doors as the man walked nearby, appearing dazed and confused.
Police confirmed they were called to the scene at around 11:45 am due to concerns for the man’s welfare. Emergency crews quickly closed the motorway to manage the incident safely. National Highways later announced that the road was reopened shortly before 1:30 pm, allowing traffic to resume.
Authorities have appealed for anyone who witnessed the incident or has information to come forward and assist with ongoing investigations.
