The Dartford Tunnel was temporarily closed after a multi-vehicle collision on the A282 eastbound approach at around 2pm on April 4. The crash caused emergency services to shut the tunnel and surrounding lanes, leading to significant disruption in the area.
National Highways (@HighwaysSEAST) responded quickly by imposing closures between junction 1b and the tunnel, advising drivers to seek alternative routes. By just before 2:30pm, all lanes and the east tunnel were reopened once the vehicles were cleared, but traffic tailbacks of up to 60 minutes continued to affect the area.
The AA maps service reported severe delays extending along the M25 anticlockwise from junction 1A A206 (Dartford) to junction 31 A1306 (Lakeside/Purfleet). Congestion also spread to junction 3 at the M20 Swanley interchange, with travel times around this stretch reaching approximately 30 minutes.
Kent Police and South East Coast Ambulance are currently investigating the crash and any injuries sustained. Drivers are urged to remain alert, follow official guidance, and monitor traffic updates to avoid being caught in the ongoing delays.
