A horror shooting in Ladbroke Grove has left an eight-year-old girl seriously hurt and a man fighting for his life, while a toddler escaped unscathed. Police have arrested a 22-year-old man accused of attempted murder after the shocking attack.
The Metropolitan Police responded to Southern Row in West London at around 5:30pm on Sunday, November 24, following reports of gunfire. A man opened fire directly into a car carrying a two-year-old toddler, an eight-year-old girl, and a 34-year-old man.
The young girl suffered serious injuries and required surgery but is now reported to be stable. The 34-year-old man sustained potentially life-changing wounds. Additionally, a 32-year-old woman was taken to hospital as a precaution but was not physically injured.
A 22-year-old suspect remains in police custody, held on suspicion of attempted murder. Authorities are investigating the full circumstances of the attack and have urged witnesses to come forward with any CCTV or dashcam footage that may assist the inquiry.
This shooting has heightened community tensions following the fatal shooting of 15-year-old Rene Graham last July at a nearby park, which left locals fearful of escalating gun crime in the area.
“It is beyond belief that a child has been caught in the crossfire of violence on the streets of London once again,” said Elizabeth Campbell, leader of Kensington and Chelsea Council. “The Mayor must act fast and work with police to tackle gun crime and halt this horror.”
Superintendent Owen Renowden confirmed that police have increased patrols on the streets to reassure the community and support the ongoing investigation.
