The Metropolitan Police have launched a murder investigation after a woman in her 60s was stabbed to death at a residence in Greenland Quay, Rotherhithe (SE16) on Friday, November 29.
Emergency services were called just before 3pm following multiple reports expressing concern for a woman inside the property. Police officers arrived at the scene alongside the London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance.
The victim was rushed to hospital for emergency treatment but sadly died later that evening.
A 61-year-old man, who was known to the woman, was arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody.
Detective Chief Inspector Kate Blackburn, who is leading the investigation, said: “We received multiple calls from members of the public close to the scene with concerns for the victim yesterday afternoon. Officers, together with London Ambulance Service and London’s Air Ambulance, responded quickly, but sadly, the woman in her 60s died in hospital yesterday evening.”
She added, “Our Specialist Crime Command are continuing enquiries today and at this stage, we believe this was an isolated incident with the man and woman known to each other.”
Police have appealed for anyone with information to come forward. They urged the public to call police on 101 or message @MetCC, quoting reference CAD 4235/29November. Information can also be reported anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Officers remain in the area to continue their investigation and to reassure concerned local residents. The Metropolitan Police have stressed that there is no ongoing threat to the wider community.
