Chaos struck the A13 this morning when a concrete mixer crashed into roadside barriers, causing significant delays and triggering a major recovery effort.
The incident occurred when the mixer driver attempted a last-minute lane change to access the flyover. The manoeuvre went wrong, resulting in the truck hitting the barriers and scattering debris across the London-bound carriageway near Barking.
Traffic quickly came to a standstill as officers from the Metropolitan Police’s Commercial Vehicle Unit arrived at the scene. The driver told police that the crash happened because he was “indecisive” at the last second.
A large recovery operation is underway to remove the wreckage and repair the damaged barriers. Long tailbacks have formed as traffic struggles to move through the affected area. Drivers are being urged to avoid the A13 near Barking and seek alternative routes.
Patience is advised for all motorists on the A13 while crews work to restore normal traffic flow.
