Detectives are intensifying their investigation into the brutal killing of Marianne Kilonzi, a 43-year-old vice president at Citibank, after she was found battered to death in her Woolwich flat on Friday, January 17.
London’s Metropolitan Police believe the prime suspect is someone known to Ms Kilonzi and are concerned the individual may have fled the United Kingdom. Efforts are ongoing to track the suspect, including potential overseas inquiries.
Detective Chief Inspector Suzanne Soren, who is leading the investigation, has promised a “fast pace” inquiry. She said, “This is a tragic crime, and our thoughts at this incredibly difficult time are with Marianne’s loved ones and colleagues. We are working tirelessly to trace a named individual in connection with this case.”
Emergency services were called to the Woolwich flat on January 17 following welfare concerns. A post-mortem examination revealed that Ms Kilonzi died from blunt force trauma and serious head injuries.
The police have not released the identity of the suspect as the investigation continues. DCI Soren has urged the public to remain calm, emphasizing that there is no wider threat. She stated, “There is no wider risk to the public,” reassuring the community that the suspect is likely someone familiar to Marianne.
A spokesperson for Citibank expressed their condolences, saying, “We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of our colleague. Our thoughts are with Marianne’s family and friends during this difficult time.”
The Metropolitan Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward. They ask that anyone with relevant details contact the Met Police on 101, quoting CAD 5231/17Jan. Alternatively, information can be provided anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
Specialist officers are supporting Ms Kilonzi’s family as the investigation progresses. The Woolwich community remains shocked by the sudden and violent death of a respected financial executive.
