Two men were arrested after a handgun was found during a dramatic police chase in Plumstead. Officers spotted a suspicious vehicle on Wrottesley Road and attempted to stop it at around 4:41 PM on Wednesday, January 22.
The driver and passengers fled the vehicle, abandoning a bag as they ran on foot. Police quickly pursued the suspects in a high-speed foot chase, resulting in the arrest of two men. During the operation, one man was tasered by officers.
The discarded bag was found to contain a handgun, which was promptly seized by the police.
A Metropolitan Police spokesperson confirmed the ongoing investigation, stating, “Officers on patrol near Wrottesley Road, SE18, attempted to stop a vehicle at around 16:41hrs on Wednesday, January 22. The occupants decamped and discarded a bag containing a handgun. Two suspects were swiftly detained and arrested. One man was tasered during the incident. Enquiries remain ongoing.”
The discovery has caused concern among local residents in Plumstead. Authorities have reassured the community that they are taking strong measures to tackle violent crime and the illegal possession of firearms.
