A daring burglary took place on Chestnut Street in Oldham at around 3.15pm on Tuesday, July 12. A man knocked on the door of an elderly resident, claiming he was there to check the water pressure. Trusting the visitor, the resident allowed him inside, but it was a ruse.
The offender stole approximately £100 in cash along with several valuable items, including watches worth around £500 and diamond rings. Police believe the suspect may be connected to other break-ins in Oldham and north Manchester.
Detectives have released CCTV images of the man they wish to question, believing he may hold important information about the crime. Detective Sergeant Matthew Adshead of Greater Manchester Police’s Oldham district described the offence as “deliberate and cowardly.”
“What happened to this elderly gentleman is appalling, and he is understandably shaken,” said Detective Sergeant Adshead. “We are determined to reunite him with his lost items and bring the offender to justice.”
Officers are urging residents to be cautious about allowing strangers into their homes without proper identification. If there is any doubt, they advise calling 999 immediately.
