Greater Manchester Police are actively searching for a parcel thief who was caught stealing parcels from an apartment block in Manchester’s Green Quarter. The incident occurred at approximately 7.40pm on Monday, December 5, 2022.
Authorities are asking anyone who lives or works nearby, or who was in the area at the time, to review their CCTV footage and provide any information that could assist in the investigation. Superintendent Paul Walker from the City of Manchester District has issued a warning about the increased risk of parcel theft during the festive season. He said, “With Christmas fast approaching, many of us will be ordering goods online and having them delivered to our homes. Parcel theft is a growing problem, especially in communal entrances of apartment blocks. Be alert. Challenge anyone trying to enter without a good reason.”
Residents are advised to be vigilant when ordering items online, particularly if parcels are left in shared entrances. It is important to challenge strangers attempting to access apartment buildings and to consider using secure delivery options or asking neighbours to collect parcels on your behalf. Any suspicious activity or lost parcels should be reported immediately to the police.
To raise awareness, GMP officers are collaborating with apartment security teams and delivery companies to distribute leaflets and posters highlighting the rising threat of parcel theft. They remind the public that stolen parcels often contain valuable Christmas gifts, urging everyone not to let thieves spoil the festive cheer.
