A 62-year-old man suffered serious injuries after being hit by a car on Hyde Road, Gorton, Manchester, just before 5pm on New Year’s Day.
Emergency crews rushed to the scene following the collision on the busy A57.
The injured pedestrian was crossing two lanes towards Hyde and had reached the central reservation when an 81-year-old man driving a Vauxhall Corsa struck him.
The car briefly drove off but then returned to the opposite side of the carriageway where police arrested the driver on suspicion of causing serious injury by dangerous driving.
Greater Manchester Police’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit is appealing for witnesses and anyone with dashcam or mobile footage of the incident to come forward.
Authorities want to piece together exactly what happened leading up to the collision.
