Just before 1:40am on Tuesday, January 23, a violent altercation at a busy Manchester junction ended in tragedy. A 30-year-old man was fatally attacked at the traffic lights where the A34 Kingsway meets Parrs Wood Lane in East Didsbury.
The incident began as a road rage dispute between two men driving separate vehicles at the stoplights. The victim suffered a brutal physical assault. Despite emergency services rushing him to hospital, he died from his injuries shortly after.
Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have informed the victim’s family, who are now receiving specialist support during this heartbreaking time.
Police have arrested an 18-year-old man on suspicion of murder. He remains in custody and is currently being questioned. GMP confirmed that both men were driving along Kingsway before the confrontation. When they stopped at the traffic lights, tempers flared, leading to the deadly clash.
Forensic teams are focusing on a silver Mercedes with damage to its passenger-side window, which is believed to be linked to the incident.
Significant road closures remain in place on Kingsway in both directions, causing travel delays as police continue their investigation.
Detective Inspector Alex Wilkinson said: “We understand this incident will shock the local community and beyond. We’re committed to thoroughly investigating to identify everyone responsible quickly.”
“The motive remains unclear, but we believe this is an isolated event. We ask the public for patience as we carry out our enquiries safely.”
