Travellers using “meet and greet” parking services at London Gatwick Airport are urged to be cautious. Sussex Police and West Sussex Trading Standards have revealed that some companies are causing problems including vehicle damage, extra mileage, and unexpected fees due to improper parking practices.
Inspector James Biggs from Gatwick Police advises: “Travellers should do their homework before choosing a ‘meet and greet’ service. Online tools can help you check companies before you hand over your keys.”
Gary Wallace, Head of Parking at Gatwick Airport, has issued a warning about rogue parking firms. He said: “Gatwick Airport has no ties to these rogue firms, despite many flaunting the ‘Gatwick’ name. They operate legally but aren’t regulated by us.” Wallace encourages passengers to use well-reviewed companies on platforms such as Trustpilot or TripAdvisor and recommends official airport parking options for peace of mind.
To avoid parking nightmares, travellers are advised to:
- Park directly with Gatwick Airport
- Use Trading Standards Approved businesses
- Check Buy With Confidence for vetted operators
Richard Sargeant, West Sussex Trading Standards Team Manager, added: “It’s tough picking a trustworthy operator with so many options and scams out there.”
If you suspect foul play or unfair trading, West Sussex Trading Standards and Citizens Advice are available to help. Issues can be reported at www.westsussex.gov.uk/TSreport or by calling 0808 223 1133.
