Nam Le, aged 30, has been jailed for two years and nine months following a significant cannabis seizure by West Midlands Police during a raid on his Lloyd Road home in Handsworth, Birmingham, in October.
The police recovered 23kg of cannabis valued at up to £140,000. This operation was part of the wider initiative known as Operation Fearless, which targets organised crime across the West Midlands region.
During the raid, officers found 2kg of cannabis hidden inside a wardrobe along with £8,000 in cash in a bedroom. Additionally, £1,000 was recovered from a car linked to Le that was parked outside the property. A nearby van connected to Le contained suitcases and bags holding a further 21kg of cannabis.
Operation Fearless is a West Midlands Police initiative aimed at disrupting serious organised crime. Detective Inspector Tom Lyons described the seizure as “a significant recovery of drugs.”
Le pleaded guilty to possession of cannabis with intent to supply and possession of criminal property. At Birmingham Crown Court last Friday, he was sentenced to nearly three years in prison.
Detective Inspector Lyons added, “We believe the drugs belonged to a wider organised crime group and would have been sold to fund further serious criminal activities.” The confiscation represents a considerable blow to criminal networks operating in Birmingham.
