Planning to visit Southend this Bank Holiday? Prepare for a significant police presence across the city as officers patrol to keep everyone safe and secure.
The message from the police is clear: enjoy the festivities, but play safe. Whether you are a local resident or a visitor, expect officers to be visible day and night. Anti-social behaviour and crime will not be tolerated, with offenders facing strict action.
Police are particularly vigilant about two unofficial meet-ups expected on Easter Monday, April 10. Southend Council has directed motorbikes to park at the Eastern Esplanade car park, formerly known as the Gas Works. Additionally, a separate car cruise may take place nearby in the evening.
To manage the situation, a dispersal order has been implemented. This order empowers officers to require anyone suspected of anti-social behaviour or reckless driving to leave the area. The designated zones include Eastern Esplanade, Marine Parade, Western Esplanade, Southchurch Avenue, and Victoria Road.
The dispersal order is effective from 9am on Monday, 10 April, until 3am on Tuesday, 11 April. Failure to comply with police instructions to leave the area could result in arrest.
Chief Superintendent Andy Waldie explained the rationale behind the order: “We want everyone enjoying Southend on Monday to do just that — enjoy themselves without feeling alarmed or harassed. Southend’s great for bikers and car lovers, and most add to the vibe. But past events have sparked disorder and anti-social acts.”
He continued, “If you’re causing trouble, we won’t tolerate it. Refuse to leave when asked and you’re likely to be arrested. Crimes, harassment, or distress in our city will be dealt with firmly.”
Chief Superintendent Waldie added, “We’ve got a solid policing plan in place, so expect to see officers around ready to handle any hotspots. If you’ve got concerns, talk to them. They’re not here to ruin your fun, but to keep everyone safe this Bank Holiday weekend.”
